Dignity for Work: Promoting Clean Villages, Honouring Rural Effort
Gaon Gathana Samiti has been leading a transformative initiative called “Dignity for Work” across rural areas in Cuttack, Jajpur,Khordha and Puri Districts of Odisha. This community-driven program encourages villagers to actively engage in cleaning and maintaining their local environment, instilling a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and collective pride.
Through this initiative, residents voluntarily participate in cleanliness drives and environmental improvement activities. In recognition of their efforts, Gaon Gathana Samiti offers essential items such as clothing, groceries, and other useful household goods — not as charity, but as a gesture of respect and appreciation for their work and commitment.
To date, the program has been successfully implemented in over 800 villages, where it has inspired thousands of people to take initiative in keeping their surroundings clean and healthy. The result is a growing culture of community-led sanitation and environmental consciousness, with visible improvements in hygiene and public spaces.
By linking dignity with voluntary action, Dignity for Work stands as a powerful example of how rural communities can be empowered to lead change with pride and purpose.
